Education in Second Life: Students and the Unexpected

Educators at Carleton University attended a Second Life demonstration intended for teachers and came up with a list of pros and cons listed in a blog entry here.

The presentation, by Sarah “Intelligirl” Robbins, opened up the eyes of the Carleton staff to the potential of Second Life in the classroom. In fact, the university is hosting its own seminar on March 20 called “Second Life Basics for Educators” based on the positive experience.

From the teacher’s perspective, the Flexible Learning Coordinator at Heriot-Watt in Edinburgh blogs here about Second Life and its potential for group educational settings.

Both entries point to Second Life’s innate ability to let students control their learning environment and to do the unexpected.
