Ah, summer festivals. The heat, the crowds, the dehydration, the parking headaches… despite all of the inconveniences of large music festivals, whose numbers must be approaching most-ever stats, people still flood to the outdoor festivals because of, well, the MUSIC.
Fear not, though. Virtual Vancouver is planning to stream most of New Music West, a music fest happening in Vancouver. VV is a “social experience with a 3D virtual reality space” and claims that streaming the festival on the Web will be the “first massively multi-user online music festival.” That’s FMMUOMF, people!
While the technology is currently Windows-only, the company behind the stream, Utherverse, assures Wired magazine that its capabilities will be up to speed and will be able to handle the stream-load for people who cannot make it to the fest. They also plan on “dynamically spawn(ing) new ‘dimensions’ of the amphitheater” in order to accommodate as many people as possible. Now that is an idea that RL could use: an ever-expanding concert venue – now that we think of it, how about projecting virtual versions of bands throughout a venue?

Not to rain on the parade of the fine people in Vancouver, the Detroit Electronic Music Festival streamed live into SL last year. It was one incredible time!
