Mark Kingdon announced the appointment of Frank Ambrose as Head of Global Technology, according to Bloomberg Technology.

“To develop computer systems, Linden named Frank Ambrose as senior vice president of global technology. Ambrose was previously head of technology for infrastructure and network services at Time Warner Inc.’s AOL.”

The Linden Lab press room is strangely absent with an announcement of its own.

Frank Ambrose held the position of “Vice President, Access Management Global Network Operations” at AOL. Which means, I guess, he’ll be responsible for keeping log-ins up and running.

With his extensive and diverse experience managing large network operations, Frank is the ideal hire to ensure that we provide the utmost in stability and user support as Second Life continues to grow,” Kingdon said. “Frank has the necessary passion, vision and ingenuity that will help us take the Second Life Grid to new levels of excellence as we scale the platform to accommodate hundreds of thousands or even millions of concurrent users.”

Prior to Linden Lab, Ambrose held several consecutive executive roles at AOL, the world’s largest Internet service provider, where he spent nine years developing network and infrastructure services. Previously Ambrose was a senior manager at MCI Telecommunications. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Siena College in New York, and was commissioned as an officer in the US Navy, serving in both active duty and reserve capacities from 1985-1998.
