There.com continues to grow, but in a Philip Rosedale touch, some advertisers are on board because the folks who log on log on a LOT.
According to a press release:
There.com, today announced five new partners participating in its Virtual Merchandise marketing program. Premier apparel providers, K-SWISS, bebe and Eberjey, as well as London-based music merchandiser Bravado and the Country Music Hall of Fame(R) and Museum will be setting up specialty shops featuring lines of virtual merchandise for There.com members to purchase for their avatars.
K-Swiss is keen on the captive audience (emphasis added):
“We are very interested in looking at the online world to reach our target consumer as we realize they spend an inordinate amount of time there,” said Jennifer Weiderman, VP of Global Marketing at K-SWISS.
And for those of us who need to double check the meaning of the word inordinate, I give you this definition:
1. not within proper or reasonable limits; immoderate; excessive: He drank an inordinate amount of wine.
2. unrestrained in conduct, feelings, etc.: an inordinate admirer of beauty.
3. disorderly; uncontrolled.
4. not regulated; irregular: inordinate hours.
There.com is far too controlled and orderly to qualify as fully inordinate, but I’d hazard to say that Second Life can be all those things in addition to excessive hours: immoderate, unrestrained in feelings, disorderly, and irregular.
