you don´t have to recompile or change open source. just download dale glass viewer http://sl.daleglass.net/ -- The viewer can log the source of chat messages. It will log the owner of speaking objects, as well as the chat source's location. For IMs, it's capable of giving the exact position of the IM's source on the grid, even if it's nowhere near the one who receives it. This feature is enabled by checking the "Log owner and coordinates" checkbox in the chat history window. --- Sometimes it comes only up with the SIM key, but this is not a real issue :-)

So has Second Life recently reversed engineered the current viewer so that one can not map someones location now on the grid by using Second Inventory when they are in IM chat with the person they what to track? In a November 2009 posting in the "help & tips" section of the Second Inventory forums it was stated that the IM tracking feature no longer works and has been stopped by Linden Lab engineers.

Second inventory can't track an avatar's position unless they actually respond to the IM. So don't buy it for this reason.
