It will log the owner of speaking objects, as well as the chat source's location. For IMs, it's capable of giving the exact position of the IM's source on the grid, even if it's nowhere near the one who receives it. In a November 2009 posting in the "help & tips" section of the Second Inventory forums it was stated that the IM tracking feature no longer works and has been stopped by Linden Lab engineers.
