Polish Music Fest Broadcasts Virtually

Poland’s Sacrum Profanum music festival, held in Krakow in September, was attended by 11,000 people in person and by over 1,000 people per night in Second Life, according to The Observers.

This was the sixth year of the festival, but the first time it held events in Second Life. This year’s festival focused mostly on significant German composers of the 20th century, such as Ute Lemper, Paul Hillier, and the Sinfonietta Cracovia conducted by Marc Minkowski. Concerts were held at venues such as the Museum of Urban Engineering, Oskar Schindler’s factory, a former chemical tinning plant, and the city’s Philharmonic Hall. In Second Life, one concert venue was recreated and SL users could watch and hear the concerts there.

Undoubtably, the highlight of the festival was a performance by cult band Kraftwerk, the kings of machine music, who became well-known from the songs Autobahn and Trans-Europe Express and the album The Man Machine.

For something a little different, here’s a clip of Kraftwerk performing at the music festival. Do not be alarmed: these people you see are, in fact, musicians:
