I can just hear it now ... I'm wandering the grid checking out wondrous virtual landscapes immersing myself in the 3D world and enjoying the escape from my mundane RL existence when suddenly I'm interrupted by .... "RINGGGGGGGGG ... Hi, this is your credit card company. There is no problem with your current account but we wanted to let you know about our latest offer." Oh yes I can hardly wait. This just looks like the Linden implementation of Vodafone's efforts. Doesn’t Vodafone have something similar inSL? This just looks like the Linden implementation of Vodafone’s efforts.

Tech excites me, new gizmos make me go 'wow - must try that'. I even signed up for the AvaLine beta. But I don't get it. Beyond the headline-grabbing 'look you can phone an avatar' what exactly is the use case? With no way to know if you are in world or not, the only way this makes even a tiny bit of sense is with the voicemail option, for which pricing seems to be missing. Also, wouldn't voicemail for in-world voice be even more useful? Why wouldn't I just set up a Skype account for my AV which would at least have the advantage of being available even when I'm not in world. This feels like a piece of the 'let's all ive in the virtual world' that is miles too early, if needed at all. /me folds arms and waits to be proved wrong. I’m a sucker for shiny.
