I think that Nebraska is the final answer to all the educators who want to work with teens on Second Life, and have no intention to move to a different platform (or deal with the complexities of actually trying to run OpenSim…).

So there is no excuse now for even thinking on a merger of the two grids. The sole good reason for mixing it — working with teens on high schools — is now solved with Nebraska.

Phew!!! The rumour last week was that the teen grid was already closed, which immediately went in the unsubstantiated rumour file when I fired up the website.

Thanks for clarifying, Dusan. The employees who most frequently think aloud about the topic are probably Philip and I because we’ve both said we see it as an important next step for the grid…at some point in the future…

Linden Lab badly needs a faster decisional cycle. Elegant circumlocutions for ‘too hard basket’ really do not cut it. At least we can be reasonably confident no-one will be struck by lightning on the road to Damascus and proclaim that the Teen Grid is like a terrarium, or a garden chair, or an XVIII Dynasty ritual object.
