I suppose most professionals work at professional rates, taking into account the money they spent on hardware, software, a pension plan, taxes and social security. I suppose that's OK if you can sell enough copies at 400 USD, 100 USD or even 50 USD. There are such builds on Xstreet. But the most popular residential structure goes at 150 L$, that's about 6 USD. It takes a lot of sales to make up for the hours of designing, texturing etc. A lot of residents log in for leisure. Buying a 500 $ virtual house is like buying a 500 $ golf set or holiday, a treat that doesn't happen often.

What I don't get is how LL rhymes the coming of mesh imports with the solution provider program of their enterprise project. A firm that has already invested 55.000 $ might want to use already created content like architect 3d renderings of their headquarters or get different price quotes from graphic artists. Mesh import throws open the market for professional content but LL will close it down by allowing only some to produce for their clients. What's up?

On the internet different services are provided by different companies. I don't log in onto amazon.com to know what my friends are doing now and I don't shop for books on twitter.

I really doubt Second Life will be the one size fits all solution for the metaverse. Virtual museums and pilot plants will be totally different from social platforms or online eductation. Some worlds wil thrive on low cost items, others on high quality content made by well paid professionals.

[...] I’ve written a few thoughts on my other blog about LL’s announced policy changes for XStreetSL, the value of items in Second Life, and why I seriously think that the freebie/dollarbie economy is not such a good think after all, in spite of Dusan Writer’s belief that it is ultimately Second Life’s destiny to be a virtual world....
Excuse me.

Ive produced such work online since 1996.
and for non online applications for 5 years before that.

So did many of the thousands of other developers and designers working in 3d RT media since then.

But every few years, we seem to have to endure start up platforma claiming NEW and First to Bring- blah blah to blah blah., while spending millions of VC PR money to claim such nonsense, and in the end after all the noise they make and expertise they bluster, they usually die a silent death of non usage by others, more often because of these companies business , not technology issues.

Enlarge your experience and knowledge. My tiny brain seems quite full of each, thank you.

Yes but meccano and lego worlds are not what professional people want. A conference center, a meeting place, an historical site, an engineering prototype, a architectural building, a museum that looks like the real thing, etc, etc.

Were are they; 15 years in existance? in your tiny mind may be!

sounds like some people want a 3dvr media /platform without all the TOS or levels of ever changing BS;)

they have existed for 15 years... just takes some work...and fair value efforts. Oh wait, thats why no one invests in them;)

maybe another future
