I still think you are way off the mark linking old school commies to open source. @Prokofy A better illustration of communism creating huge economic and humanitarian errors can be found in

Sure it was a devastating result of the greed and poor forward thinking Russian cotton industry. The flaw in your thinking is two-fold, 1. Opensource is not communism. 2. Capitalism has many quotable disasters, e.g. Exxon Valdese oil spill, Union Carbide poisoning in India, The many unexploded bomblets and mines in Laos following the Vietnam conflict, The recent BP disaster are just a handful. @Prokofy, You always quote the Aral Sea when you wish to criticize communism. There can't be any commerce when you don't have protection of private property and intellectual property through the rule of law. Opening up the server code and enabling everybody to copybot everything in SL strips out all the value and makes it the usual communist wasteland. Real life should have taught you that. Look at the Aral Sea. Re: “Today we are very happy…” blah blah

Which, by the way is predictable, but that’s a whole nother discussion on one's relationship to the Past, Present and Future (as it relates to time). Anyway, the Future can be realized by you and from your vision. If your vision becomes sort of an attitude (can't think of a better word for it) Yet, this attitude is like you have BOTH feet in. Whereas, most people approach life with one foot in and one foot. Which take on an aberration of caution that borders on paranoia. If fear of failure is one's initial reaction to life, a thing, a desire, etc., etc.; one's fear will be more confronting, until you "get it". Getting it is an approach of already residing in your future/vision. All you have to do is figure out how you got there. :) Another way to approach the future. The magic of the future can be said to reside in the age old tradition of "Wishing upon a star". In that, we were told to not share the wish, to keep it to ourselves, etc. So, as is the case with more people we have learned to live out our lives inside our own heads. This is the fundamental flaw of this tradition, perhaps it was/is initially perceived to be a personal romantic experience (to not share the wish). Yet, try this out...share the wish next time, write it down, talk about it often and with as many people as your comfortable with. I do not mean, necessarily, to evangelize it. But, to just get it out of your head. This is the real power of the spoken word, this can be the granting by the grantee. :) Interesting, to put it lightly! Here is the revolutionary announcement I’m waiting to hear that would transform the Lab from the owner of a walled garden to the founder of a multi-world galaxy. “Today we are very happy to announce that we are opening up the source code to our own servers so that anybody can create their own virtual worlds. Just think of it! You will now be able to build your own world that will share the SL ecosystem,  just as real world colonists share the same language and cultural heritage as the home that they left behind. SL and the new lands will share a common codebase, a compatible implementation of avatars, and a connected transactional framework for shopping. We are also proud to announce a secure transaction platform that will enable trading among all the “New Worlds,” similar to global trading IRL.“ Sadly, I hear nothing revolutionary in the Lab’s new crowd-sourcing plan, only more evolutionary steps toward oblivion. I agree with you in saying "Whether he’s right or wrong doesn’t feel like it matters, in some ways. Sometimes, having a vision is far more important than doing the absolute right thing." The conference left me with a calm, happy, things are going to be okay but I am not sure exactly why and I don't care kind of feeling. Thanks for saying it so well - and your own speech at SLCC was pretty awesome stuff too:) thanks, Dusan, for saying what I felt as I listened to Philip speak from inworld last week.

He knows where he needs to go, and even better, he knows that he must take small, feasible steps all the way there." Thanks for sharing that with us ArminasX. It's reassuring to read this in-light of the recent decisions decisions regarding the name change, TSL shutdown and Community Gateway shutdown that have so many residents in an uproar. It would be nice to think that there is a bigger picture to all of this. “… he knows this space better than anyone.
