Thanks to the Web 2.0 Asia blog, we’ve become aware that Samsung unveiled a Second Life solution for its handheld devices at CTIA, a wireless event, in Las Vegas.
The SL application will allow those with Samsung mobile handsets using Windows to run an integrated blogging platform – allowing users to write in the RW and SL blogs at the same time – or to use a “Mixed Contract” function. This one is pretty interesting, allowing contact with SL avatar buddies on the Internet, through a phone or by using SMS.
Interesting, because here is an application that helps close the gap between RL and the virtual worlds. There are those, of course, who think that RL and SL should be separated further, not pushed closer together, but that’s another story for another post.
At the recent Virtual Worlds Conference, work around business collaboration included platforms that allow fairly seamless integration in in-world voice and phone. The Icarus Studios platform included the ability to place phone calls from within the virtual space, for example.
