Three events this week look at areas I’ve long been interested in and I invite you to attend.
Philip Rosedale’s Vision
This afternoon at Metanomics a panel will use Robert Bloomfield’s interview with Philip Rosedale as a jumping off point to discuss his vision (and, I suppose, its execution) for Second Life. I’m thrilled to be part of the panel, although I fear I won’t have much to say compared to the others, who have thought longer and have far more experience than I ever will.
The panel should include: Roland Legrand, Wagner James Au, Tish Shute, Bettina Tizzy, Nic Matham, Christian Renaud, and Ben Duranske.
I commented on the Rosedale interview, talking first about his vision for Second Life as a platform, and second the role of the user interface and orientation.
The event is at 12:00 SLT today (Monday September 29th). To join the discussion, visit Metanomics or its event partners.
The User Interface and Experience
As part of an incredible series of events being hosted by Orange Island, tomorrow I’m moderating a discussion of the “light” clients and the user interface for Second Life and OpenSim. I’ll be joined by:
- Jacek Antonelli, who will discuss the Imprudence viewer project, a Resident-led initiative to build a better viewer for Second Life
- Zaki of 3Di will discuss progress on creating a browser-based client for virtual worlds, in particular OpenSim
- Reta Shan, winner of my User Interface contest, who will discuss ways that our experience of Second Life can be improved through UI improvements
- Vollee, who will discuss cell-phone based clients
The event is at 12:00 PM SLT on Tuesday September 30th.
Hands-Free Access and Expression
Also at Orange Island’s innovation week, I’m moderating a discussion on innovative interfaces for accessing virtual worlds, and on avatar expression. I’ll be joined by Philippe Bossut (Handsfree3D, Mitch Kapor’s project), Alexander Cassassovici (VR-Wear – SL: Ksso Yamauba), and Gaspar Breton (Orange Labs).
The event is on Thursday, October 2nd at 12:00 pm SLT.
Hi Dusan, check out my post on my take on SL user interface issues and related areas. In particular, I discuss the emotional bandwidth issue and possible solutions.
