The Lab today dampened speculation that Second Life is about to be ported to the XBox, that Mitch will open source the whole thing like a 3D Mozilla, or what held the most promise for the entire community – that Philip will get new hair. Instead, the Lab clarifies that it will be “about a new program that recognizes the achievements of Residents in making Second Life a disruptive technology platform.”
My guess? At 65,000 concurrent users the Grid generally goes down, crashes, freezes and needs to disable log-ins. Anything over 65,000 is therefore definitely disruptive to the technology platform. Therefore, every user who tries to log in over the magic 65,000 concurrency number will get a free spot on the SL6B sims next year to do with whatever they want.
