Think Artificial reports that Second Life is coming to the iPhone. The topic has been floating around the SLDev list, with some insiders at the Lab mulling the possibility of an iPhone viewer where your avatar’s movements would be keyed to the haptics of the phone itself - tilt the phone right, your avatar moves right.
The Think Artificial report picks up on the work of Vollee which is in development on a mobile client, and who points out that it will run not only on 3G but also Wi-Fi, opening up the possibility of an iPhone client. Interviewing the Business Development Manager at Vollee, they report that iPhone will be supported, although “unfortunately the company was not prepared to release any videos or photos of the software. For now all they could say was that they were working on it.”
Vollee is asking for SL residents to sign up for the open beta:
“… For this to be successful we are looking to get as many SL residents as possible interested in this service for the open beta. The more people who sign up the more handsets we will support and the more features (such as mouse interactions and transactions) will be coming. If we feel that there is a real strong demand and interest from the SL community there are a LOT more things we can do …
