Disney World 3D

A Google Earth (GE) 3D render of Disney World has picked up a lot of coverage, a lot of it with a “Disney Goes Virtual” theme - and while Disney has definitely gone 3D, it’s time to draw the line in the virtual sand for implications that it’s in the same class as a virtual world. Unless you can run around with your avatar and kids in tow and wait in line with all the other travel-weary avatars it’s not really virtual, it’s just 3D.

OK, but semantics aside, I’m of the increasing belief that when it comes to virtual worlds we need to keep a much closer eye on 3D spaces. With Google opening up the API for Google Earth and putting it in the broswer, we’re only a few months away from some kid in their basement putting together an avatar app for GE so why quibble.

As for Disney, well, I’ll defer coverage to Geeks Are Sexy, mostly because I think that’s a great name for a blog, although possibly deluded as many geeks are. OK..kidding…just wanted to throw out a cheap shot…I LOVE geeks I really do! And what’s a blogger if not a frustrated geek…always on the sidelines, not actually able to DO anything.

In any case, wander over and have a look:
