According to The National, a newspaper from the Arab Emirates, griefers in Second Life are being imprisoned in a corn field:
As in real life, Second Life also has its seedy side. Virtual prostitutes abound and virtual love affairs between avatars have reportedly led to some real-life marriages ending. There have also been allegations of illegal gambling. Criminal avatars known as “griefers” have reportedly been banished to a bizarre online prison dubbed “The Corn Field”, an eerily moonlit cornfield with a tractor, a black-and-white TV set and no way out.
This picks up on a story last published, best I can tell, in January 2006. I have no idea whether it’s still true? Mind you, the article is titled “Second Life - The Game” so I think they have a bit more work to do before I rely on them as a trusted news source for things virtual.
I propose that if griefers are still being shipped off to corn fields that they send them instead to AM Radio’s famous The Far Away in the hope that they become inspired enough to do something productive on the Grid.
