Picking a University the Virtual Way

While the admissions process for teens applying to institutes of higher learning still involves SATs, hand-wringing, and a great deal of patience, Canada’s MacLean’s magazine will be offering a virtual fair to allow potential students and parents a 3D glimpse at school programs and campuses.

On October 22, McLean’s will team up with media company Youth Culture to present the fair, according to Marketing Week. The fair, to be held in a setting similar to Second Life organized by the Unisfair company, will showcase live video feeds of speakers, information booths, and peer-to-peer interaction.

Among the notable guest speakers McLean’s has confirmed are Vincent Lam, a Giller-prize winning doctor from Toronto, and Doctors Without Borders Canada founder Richard Heinzl.

MacLean’s is promoting the fair nationally, with advertisements in some of Youth Culture’s magazines and elsewhere, as well as internationally, by partnering with topuniversities.com, a site run by the London Times.
