Metanomics welcomes Professor Noam Chomsky for a very special episode of on Tuesday October 12th at 12:00 p.m. PDT.
Professor Chomsky needs little introduction. Professor of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he has written and lectured widely on linguistics, philosophy, intellectual history, contemporary issues, international affairs and U.S. foreign policy.
His work has been at times provocative, always insightful, and has influenced generations. His appearance on Metanomics brings Professor Chomsky into a virtual world where a global community can join in the discussion and represents a highlight event for the Metanomics community.
For more information, visit the Metanomics Web site.
(Disclosure, as if you couldn’t figure this out: my company owns and produces Metanomics, so yes, this is an ad. See you there. )
Please, remind us of that closer to the date.
OMG – He is my hero linguist of all times. And I am out of town that day. Oh my. Dont miss this, people.
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Dusan Writer, Doubledown Tandino, Trevor Meister , Pooky Amsterdam, Chantal Harvey and others. Chantal Harvey said: RT @PookyMedia: RT @Ravelong: via @DusanWriter Noam Chomsky to Appear in Second Life on Metanomics http://bit.ly/aaFJef [...]
I second Ricco’s request. Please remind us all sometime near the broadcast. Twitter would work well for me, blog probably better for some others.
I am so excited! Chomsky is one of my heroes.
Dusan, that’s PDT. Daylight time lasts until Nov. 1. I suspect some kind of attendance list might be required, because this will be packed. I wanna be there!
We’ll post again closer to the date – and I’ll do so in Twitter as well @dusanwriter
Thanks for the interest!
Chantal – there’s nothing like being there of course, but as always the broadcast will be archived.
TY, will bookmark.
Gosh, Noam Chomsky…. will try to be there.
Chantal – there’s nothing like being there of course, but as always the broadcast will be archived. ………
i wanna talk with him….. how unfortunate i cant be there.
I have to chime in here : Thank you Dusan – seriously. We are all so proud to be part of this as the production crew, team members , patrons & friends – all of us in Second Life. This just rocks. period.
How remarkable this news is. Chomsky is a great intellect. His being able to reach through all distance to be interviewed by Beyers is truly wonderful. Bravo all for this great gift! Thank you.
Chomsky is a hater of Israel, America, the West, and the open society. He outright lies, is easily caught, and yet his cult followers close ranks around him.
Why are you having this awful extremist man on Metanomics? He doesn’t care about virtual worlds or economies, and he doesn’t care about capitalism, of course, he’s its greatest enemy.
It’s not about “being afraid” of ideas or “censoring their right to speak — it’s about not inciting loony extremism and having a *debate*. Who is going to debate this cunning manipulator in an audience of slack-jawed hacktivists staring up at his mouth moving?!
Is this Beyers Sellers doing or whose?
I used to have a professor of linguistics at the University of Toronto, Dusan. He would carefully explain that Chomsky’s linguistics were really crappy, but his politics were good. Then — and I’m not making this up! — I knew a polysci professor later who said that his politics were crappy, but his linguistics were good.
And that’s how he’s kept everyone fooled all this time.
P.S. I was actually on a panel once with Chomsky at the Socialist Scholars’ Conference. He is a cold fish.
P.P.S. Children are not pre-wired for language.
I am very pleased to hear this, I will try and be there too.
Well done, he is a great man.
Noam Chomsky is one of the greatest mind of our times. This news is awesome!
Thanks for creating this event.
Noam “I never found a totalitarian dictatorship I didn’t like” Chomsky ?
Relly ? He will be visiting the decadent capitalistic construct known as Second Life ?
Shouldn’t he be in Cuba waiting in line for a ration of sugar ?
Or testifying in favor of Pol-Pot henchmen currently on trial for genocide ?
Anyway, I predict the SIM will be full of leftist sheep in freebie Che t-shirts… and Rage Against The Machine on the radio stream.
God I just hope I can get into the sim, cries!
love him love him love him
Well, don’t forget we have many event partners that will be streaming live if you cannot make it to the main venue. http://www.metanomics.net/event_partners/

He’d better appear soon, or he’ll be the only educator left in SL.
Came across this post late in my feed, and just knew that Prok would be upchuck her usual vomit here in the comments. As I expected, she did spurt her predictably empty but smelly acid bile.
What a contrast the two are! One, brilliant and humble and respectful, no matter what you think of his politics and mistakes; the other a bombastic and pathetically egotistical name-dropper who influences no one, simply because of how she acts.
Prok knows who she can’t compete with, so as usual she instead slurs. She accuses Chomsky of magically fooling his cult followers, yet look at her own comment–there’s no substance, but there is the usual hateful manipulation with mostly bullshit ad hominems.
Thanks for bringing the now 80(?)year-old Chomsky to SL. Agree or disagree, the man makes you think and question. (Prok excepted).
thinkings good. asking questions, maybe even better-)
id challenge him if he says anything looney…lol but i probably wont get in… or remember what time the thing starts.
anyhow. wired for language?.. hm… i just removed my scalp…didnt see any wires.;)
now i need to clean up.
